Generative Music

Generative music is an approach to composition where certain ‘composerly’ actions are delegated to another agent. This might be a computer, a human improviser or the rules of a game. The important thing is to take some creative control away from the composer.

Generative compositions are often open-ended, involve a certain degree of unpredictability, and may play with the boundaries of concepts such as authorship and ownership of a composition.
